Drake opened his last gift as his family looked on. He could feel their eyes on him as he tore the paper.
“What do you think it is?” asked his younger brother.
He opened the box, after untying an unnecessary ribbon, to reveal a sweatshirt with the logo of the college he was supposed to attend in September.
“Congratulations, son,” said his father. “Why don’t you put it on?”
“Well,” Drake placed the box next to the fireplace and stood up. “I’ve decided not to go to college. At least not yet.”
“What? Why?”
“There’s something else I want to do with my life,” said Drake. “I open for Jimmy Vendor this weekend. I can sing. I can dance.” He looked down at his feet. “I think I really have a shot at making my passion into something.”
“Don’t you think you’ll need college?” asked his father.

Drake’s father walked over and placed a hand on Drake’s shoulder.
“If that’s what you want to do.” His father took in a deep breath before letting it out. “Then I support you.”
“We all do,” said his mother.
“You sure got a lot of clothes,” said his younger brother.
