Holiday Romance: Snow Day (Part 3 of 3)
Kelsey stopped in front of the coffeehouse, and Jake caught up to her. Each of them had a snowball in hand.
Jake picked up a handful of snow and began packing it in his hands as he ran after Kelsey. He knew right away where she was leading him — the coffeehouse. It was their Friday tradition to treat themselves to a nice coffee on the way to work. The cafeteria at work provided free coffee, but having the same thing day after day took its toll. The Friday tradition was Kelsey’s idea, and he looked forward to it every week.
“You can’t run forever!”
“I can run at least two miles!” Kelsey shouted back.
He lobbed his snowball, and it hit Kelsey in the back.
“Good shot!” she called out. “Now you’re getting it.” She grabbed a handful and carried on running.
“Just you wait,” said Jake, already packing another snowball. “That was just a practice throw!”
“Oh, was it?” Kelsey giggled.
Kelsey stopped in front of the coffeehouse, and Jake caught up to her. Each of them had a snowball in hand.
“Well, well, well,” said Jake. “Looks like we have a standoff.”
“Who’s going first?” asked Kelsey. “Think you can draw faster than me?”
“I think I — ”
The snow dripped from Jake’s face.
“Coffee is on me!” shouted Kelsey.
Jake looked up and smiled.
“I’ll take a hot chocolate.”
