Paul wandered into the bookstore at the airport. He had two hours to burn between flights, and he’d left the book he’d purchased a week prior at home.
As he browsed, he noticed the book he had waiting for him back home on the kitchen table. Should he buy another copy?
“Can I help you with anything?”
Paul placed the book he was reading the blurb on, back on the shelf. He turned his attention to the young woman standing beside him. He noticed from her nametag that her name was Christina.
“Looking for the perfect book for a three-hour plane ride,” he said. He pointed to the spy thriller he had at home. “I meant to bring this one with me, but alas, it was the one thing I forgot to pack.”
“Are you looking for something in the same genre?”
“Maybe not. I could go for an adventure story. I used to read big trilogies within fantastical worlds when I was young.”
“Follow me,” she said.
Paul followed her to the edge of the store. Where she pointed to a small stack of books on a side table.
“I haven’t had the chance to put these away yet,” she said. She pulled the top book from the stack. “This one is by an indie author from back home. We got these in yesterday and I was so excited for her I called right away and forgot to put them on the shelf.” She handed the book to Paul. “I think it has what you’re looking for. A big world with plenty of unique characters to meet and nooks and crannies to explore.”
Paul read the back of the book.
“This sounds perfect,” he replied. “Thank you.”
“Happy I can help,” she said. “Which reminds me, I have a plane to catch when my shift ends. I’m headed home to celebrate with my friend.”
“That’s exciting. Tell her she’s got a new fan in me.”
“I will.”
After paying for his new book, Paul found the gate for his flight and began reading. Before he knew it, they were announcing his flight to board.
He noticed Christina walk towards the gate with a bookbag over her shoulder.
When he found his seat, he placed his bag in the overhead compartment.
“Small world.”
Paul looked down to see Christina sitting in the middle seat of his row.
“Nothing like this book you recommended,” he replied.
“My name is Christina,” she said.
He smiled.
“Paul.”
