Biking Around The Neighborhood (Part 8 of 12) (A Friends to Lovers Sweet Romance)
“It wasn’t a date,” said Olivia. “Besides. What would we even do? I live hours away. It wouldn’t work out.”
Olivia pulled into her parents’ driveway still thinking about her meet-up with Josh. Was it a date?
She entered the house at a quarter to ten. Her parent’s, assuming they kept the same sleep schedule she’d grown accustomed to would already be —
“How was your date?” asked her mother. She sat in the chair in front of the television with a book in her hands. A pair of tortoise shell reading glasses sat at the tip of her nose. Olivia spotted her father asleep on the couch.
“It wasn’t a date,” said Olivia. “Besides. What would we even do? I live hours away. It wouldn’t work out.”
“Hours,” said her mother. She shrugged. “I’ve worked jobs that were hours away. Back when you were still a baby, I used to drive three hours to the restaurant near where your uncle Ken and Aunt Jennifer live. If I didn’t have it in me to drive home after work, I’d spend the night with them. We needed the money, and it was well worth the drive. Love on the other hand…”
“Whoa whoa whoa. Nobody said anything about love.”
“There’s always been something between you and Josh. I’m surprised you never noticed.” Her mother coughed into a clenched fist. “Don’t waste any more time.”
“Mom, are you okay? Can I get you anything?”
“I’ll be fine. Scratch that. Get me water.”
Olivia returned with a glass of water.
“Invite him over for lunch tomorrow,” said her mother. “I’d like to see him.”
